Backcross (BX)

Backcrossing (abbreviated as BX) is a genetic strategy in cannabis breeding where a hybrid offspring is crossed back to one of its parents, often the recurrent parent carrying a desired trait. This method reinforces specific genetic expressions, such as terpene profile, cannabinoid content, or structural features. Repeated backcrossing (BX1, BX2, etc.) can create highly stable cultivars while preserving key characteristics from the parent strain.
