Substrate

Substrate refers to the physical growing medium, which can be soil, coco coir, rockwool, perlite, or other inert materials. Its properties—such as aeration, water retention, and nutrient-holding capacity—directly affect root development and plant performance. In hydroponics, the substrate provides root support while nutrient delivery occurs through the solution.
