Diatimatious earth and bugs

Have thrips, I call it the gonerea of the canabius world. Hopefully I can say HAD Thrips. I did neem oil followed 2 days later with neem mixed with insecidal soap. Then 2 days later diatimatious earth DE. Looked through the loupe and seen some dead ones and only 1 walking soon to dead. When I first found them it was easy to see lots walking thrips, hopefully I've killed em. My plants are stunted and right now all ugly with white powder spots. It's ok cause only three plants are for smoke and flower is in early stage. Any way anybody have experience with bugs and DE

I have not had to use it yet it heard it works well. That and a layer of sand on top will also help.
