Has anyone done any experiments with under lighting?

My canopy is extremely thick and I fear of defoliating this late into flower. Yet I feel it is still early enough that this may help the lower bud sites. I did a search for "under lighting" but no luck. Hopefully someone has done this and can share results. as you can see it has very much improved light penetration. the first pic is about a week ago. I just put the HLG board underneath since it was just collecting dust.

Hello you might get heat issues as heat rises up through the plant i might be wrong prob be better from the side

Don't worry about defoliating so much,I've never had a problem defoliating if the plant is too bushy.

Take some off today and see how the plant responds, it will most likely rebound quickly and you will end up needing to defoliate again. That's been my experience so far anyways.

Great experiment. Glad somebody is trying it other then me... I'd be worried about stress. The underside of the leaves don't have the waxy coating that the top of the leaves have. Maybe turn the light way down. Should be no problem plucking a couple leaves every other day if you really want to thin it out

Your canopy wasn't really that thick, your plants not that large to be concerned with light loss. They mostly needed a bottom prune to remove those weak branches that weren't going to produce. It looks good though.

You can do side lighting, check out Growlight Australia, but lighting from below creates shadows. From the side works much better.
