I would 100% defoliate the leaves below the buds.

Just to throw a contrary opinion out there - I would not do this unless needed for air circulation. Keep the fan leaves on as long as they are productive (i.e. at least 60% green) and are not blocking adequate air flow. This is how the plant creates energy necessary for full flower development. IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Warning before feeding my suggestion! Just checked out of couriousity, the ratios on my bottles are completely different to new ones in online-stores today.
Mine still read:
Grow: 2.5 - 1.2 - 5
Micro: 4.5 - 0 - 1
Bloom: 0 - 5 - 3.5
so don't use my calc if your values differ please.
