Sorry for the late response. Yes tap water only. And recharge 1 time a week. I started recharge the first watering. I used cold water and wud leave tap water out for 24 hours before watering to let it get to room temp and to let some of the chlorine evaportate. I use 1 gallon milk jugs rinsed out good and then leave the cap off after I fill it until I water. My tap measures at 150 ppm on .500 scale on my bluelab combo meter
