Seeds crack but don’t sprout

I’ve had a number of seeds that, using the paper towel method, crack open but don’t send out a root. Some of the seeds are a few years old but have been stored well. Anyone experience this, or have some suggestions for improvement? Thx

Hello if you put a couple of drops H2O2 in a shot glass with the seeds and let them sprout in it works well for old seeds

Like @Del boy said. Put 3 drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in a shot glass full of water and let it sit in warm dark place for 24-48 hours they will pop a taproot if they are still good seeds. I just figured this out myself it works a charm!

I’ve never used H202 but am a big fan of adding some kelp and Humic to my seed soak.

I don’t use the paper towel method just soak for 3-5 hours then into media. That being said are you keeping the paper towel well moistened? sounds like they are popping open and dying off so it’s either two things (I think) they are too moist and damping off or they are drying out

Thanks for the advice. I’ve used H2O2 for scarification before. It sounds like you may be leaving it in the solution until the root appears. Is that correct? Thx

For me no 3-5 hr max seed hasn't even cracked yet I plant it in final home or a solo cup
