when i check my one and only first little girl,{ tangerine dream, 5 weeks and seems to be where she's supposed to be} i use a small 2 inch machine screw , smaller the better so's not to piss off the roots . i probe about halfway between the stem and pot edge {4L}. keep the threads clean and you see where the moisture is at exactly. i still spot check by feel of the pots weight. hope this is a new trick for y'all. {cameras broke. i'm working on it}

I just use my finger, and I got big ones. They probably don't like it when I do a slurry test either. Some soils can look wet but be quite dry so I prfer to feel exactly what's going on.
