I would say that you grow in whatever size you want, it should be treated as a good fun challenge rather than outright competition... Well.ie in my opinion anyway

I’m thinking of filling a boot with pebbles and drip feeding it on a timer .......

I was thinking along those lines, something like 50/50 Coco/Perlite for plenty air through the boot and some kinda hospital drip setup.

nice. I’m trying to think how I’d build a res and run to waste too fully automate things without having too buy anything

Maybe if the bottom of the boot get a layer of clay pebbles before filling it with coco/perlite
then you would just need a couple of good holes in the bottom/sole and then sitting on something at the top of a bucket.
