Calling all Tomato growers

its been wet, very wet and pretty cool along with the rain.... but they survive so there is that
They really just require a week or two with some warmth brighter days.... its not a lot to ask for is it?

Aaaaand another cool, wet week goes by, although the sun popped out for a few hours yesterday.... so there is hope.

Tomatoes are starting to take shape. The one in the middle is Black Prince. The ones on the sides are Cherokee Carbon.

Garden update.

Potatoes in back and I planted a little corn patch a couple days ago in front of it.

Acorn squash and mini watermelon

Tomato row, they are finally growing.

Some peas, just planted green beans on the other side.

Strawberry patch, been harvesting berries for about a week now.

Cold weather crops, kale and spinach will be taken out soon. There are also carrots and golden beets that will finish up. Tomatillo in the back

Onions, kale and arugula. Arugula already bolted. I’ll replace soon.

Unhappy sweet pepper bed, with onions and some cukes. Hoping the peppers will grow out of the cold weather damage. I may have added too much fertilizer. Pickling cukes are starting.

Hot pepper bed with lettuce and more cukes.

Can’t wait for the blueberries to ripen. We have 4 bushes

Okay tomatoers...what's your pruning/training regimen for cherry tomato plants? These guys in my SIPs are out of control, and I can continue to let them go with minor pruning, but I fight the urge to remove any unruly and damaged leaves though I feel that would lead to schwazzing them . What if anything do you folks do to yours? They're drinking a gallon + each a day still:

Typically most folks will keep one main vine and remove all the suckers. That way you can train the plan on to a trellis or other structure to support it. You can also run it up using a string, there's many examples online. Having a plant like this will cause the plant to put a lot of energy into biomass production (leaves and stems) vs flowers (fruit) and your tomato yields will be lower than if you pruned the plant.

If it were me, I'd remove all but maybe 2-3 of the best stems and go from there. In that size container, in an organic system, you'll also run out of nutrients pretty soon and I'd plan on feeding it with liquid fertilizers to get a good harvest. Hope that helps! You have some healthy plants though, that's half the battle.

You guys are lucky. It's too cold here in the Seattle area....my tomatoes are just not growing but next week it's going to get hot so we might actually get some growth. Mine are only a foot or so tall and maybe have 1 set of flowers.

Same in Amsterdam, cool, wet, windy... with 10mins of sun between downpours... but its summer time in a week, so things will have to change

Hi guys , I had a full on 2 weeks and had internet problems , I'll be posting some pics soon . One thing I have noticed is Big Beef does not like the tropics , we are also having a warmer winter than normal which is creating soil temp problems , now being the first time I have grown tomatoes in pots I have had some issues , I post in a day or so .
