On the subject of variety of phenos in a pack of seeds…. I actually like that. I’m a heavy medical user…..the variance among phenos is often enough to ward off the tolerance demon

Exactly…..I’m rotating through strains, morning to night. I rarely smoke the same strain two joints in a row.

The only problem is when you find a strain you really like and cannot find it again!!
But rotating your stash is always good. I do like my one sativa for the off to the office commute and buzz though.

Very true, and I’ve run into that over the years (been doing this dance for a decade now). Good thing is, I seem to find a new favorite on a regular basis

Good point. I left the Monsanto name as most people know them to be an evil empire. I'm aware of Bayer owning the whole shebang and I'm pretty sure they buried the Monsanto name as it had a lot of negative baggage. Excellent link to post and let everyone see what's going on these days.

I think most would read Bayer and think, oh the aspirin guys! They're nice!

Bayer is THE or among the leaders in developing advanced plant/genetic technologies. But I recall from somewhere that Bayer (like most other mainstream pharma, chemical, agribusiness and other largest-type high-tech companies) intends to totally or mostly ignore the cannabis seeds/genetics market for now - too small/niche; too strange/alien, even criminal/low-life (surely to straight German executives); regulations remain hostile in many places, uncertain in nearly all; still too many PR downsides, even in the US (the presumed main market); patent and trademark protection often not available; as shown with Dinafem, money and product stock susceptible to irrational expropriation by governments; etc.

[In my real-world role as a biotech/pharm. market and technology analyst, if hired by Bayer (or other large pharma company, I'd likely recommend they avoid more cannabis involvement for now (seeds/growing markets that is; definitely should be developing new drugs) -- wait maybe 3-5 years, see what happens with actual legalization in major markets, see what the nature of the market is, who is or will be the 'winners' (and losers) and then consider seeking technology and/or market dominance though mergers, acquisitions and licensing. This is something we simply should expect, sooner or later].

All this talk about the breeders. How about some responsibility of the grower and their expectations?
Unless you are growing in the same soil with the same lighting, nutrients, altitude and so many other variables, how can you expect to get the same results as the breeder? Why do your tomatoes grow different from your next door neighbors?

An issue I do have is why can't I buy a pack of seeds and have them all grow the same? But then, why do you have brown hair and your sister has blonde? Why do some twins look completely different? These are living things and not some manufactured widget. Seems to me, that about the only way to accomplish this is to buy clones that you know come from the same mom.

I do believe one of the major reasons for some breeders to do grow shows and such here is to see how their strains work under different conditions.

I saw on an episode of Growing Exposed, one big player saying how they were introducing a "pheno hunt" and customers would pay more for the "privilege" of being involved in it.

Yeah, when you plant vegetable seeds you cull out the weakest. If you grow multiples of different strains at the same time you will see differences in how they like their nutes. Not all strains like the same amount of nutes. People are growing a lot of variety now. When select a mother and take clones you were growing less variety and you were able to key in on what is exactly wanted.

Here's the podcast from last night where he went in depth on some of the bullshit that's out there. Well worth a watch if you're new to buying seeds online, IMO. I've only gotten took once to my knowledge, but even that pisses me off to this day. The more you know, and all.

I don't know this fellow although I've heard some things(not sure if its Dark Horse, Dank Horse, Dank House or some other similar name) but does anyone else think its slightly humorous that he steals the name of a movie character, applies the name to his strain and now "itches about other bad actors stealing "his" name?

I have 2 boxes working each with 2 plants of the same strain and each are totally different
