First grow, first post

After a long hiatus from cannabis, I'm back due to (mostly) medical reasons.
I've decided for various reasons the best thing to do is grow my own.
I do have some horticultural experience, but I've never grown weed.
I've got a MarsHydro tent -2x4x6, with their eco 120 LED light, sold as a combo.
This being my first grow, I'm very tempted to stay with what I know, starting in light soil and peat pot,
into 3 gal pots, into some good (readily) available organic potting mix ,
then figure out the feeding (if) when needed.
I'd prefer not having to order grow medias that are going to cost $30-50 a pop, at least right
now at the beginning when I'm spending $$ getting equipped
My main question is, IF, IF you had to buy a potting soil/mix at a big box, any suggestions ? maybe a soil that would be ok if mixed with perlite, peat or whatever ?
any other tips welcome

Dr earth is available here, and a decent soil. Cannabis is a good scavenger of heavy metals, so check the mixes carefully. Not something you want yourself or others to consume.

Looks like Home Depot carries Dr Earth products but as for soil, nothing in store, and all unavailable online.
They do carry a soil from a company named Kellogg Garden Organics, maybe I'll go see if there is a bag
that has a little tear in it and see what it look like.

with all my plants and flowers, I've always used Miracle Gro Nature's Care and it's always served me well, I just wonder how different growing cannabis can be ?

I was actually watching a YouTube video just today where a guy used the miracle grow nature's care potting soil and Dr. Earth organics and it wasnt too bad of a plant. It was autos he was growing, I dont remember the channel I was on, just that I searched Dr. Earth Flower Girl for cannabis in my search bar and I clicked on the first video I saw. Just thought I would throw that out there. I'm fairly new at growing, got one successful harvest under my belt so I'm by far no expert lol

I order mine from True Value. Not sure what you want I'm not organic, I use pro mix sometimes you can have it shipped to a store for free and pick up or delivery for a fee. They have a ton of stuff I'm sure organic too, they have all the Fox Farms soils and coco. I get a 3.8cf for 49.99 which last a long time. I also have biobizz light mix which I believe is organic. Has nothing in it you must feed. I got on Ebay delivered to me, I got 2 1.5cf bags 19.99 each free delivery. True Value has a ton of soils, coco all kinds. I have 1 near me like 15mins so free to pick up. Miracle-Gro is very salty from what I hear, you can grow but not the best for bud. There are better options something that works well for tomatoes should work. Biobizz is what a lot of people use for organic grows and is well respected. I had issues with it because I need an organic ph+ and didnt have. Must have if using organic, if you use non organic it can mess you up jack lol. I now have some Nectar for the Gods ph up so can use with biobizz. You probably know a lot of this just incase you dont lol. But I'm sure any hardware store type place with gardening should have something. I found the smaller places have better stuff. Good luck you will do fine!

heya @jaywillin and to afn! yup, growin ur own is indeed the sensible thing to do nowadayz u know what strainz ur gonna be growin-? and needless to say, u'll still need to get at least a passive intake/exhaust fan system goin & one or two circulating fanz...good airflow is mucho importante' as for soil, there'z alwayz amazon to order from...that'z where i got the OF i'm currently growin 2 NL girlz in...some peepz say it'z too hot & prefer the happy frog, or a mix of the two (what i'll be doin next time), but all i know is my girlz are luvin the ffof jus fine but then again, me kinda the oddball o' the bunch here, lol, applying the good ol' "au naturale" approach, with no nutez whatsoever, so that'z jus me own 2 ctz & take with salt plz :smoking: tag me in when u start a journal & i'll be there got a great commune here on afn, with somebody alwayz willin to help & u'll do fine

This is also my first indoor grow. I am using 3 gal rain science pots filled with Biobizz that has 1c Bokashi added in and Greenleaf nutes to satisfy there hunger
