I germ my beans the same always. I plant each bout 1/2 inch down in moistened biobizz lite mix, place on heat pad, under 24/7 t5, cover seed area with shot glass or similar...3-4 days later...bingo.
Popping in the light has never seemed to hurt anything.

I use the mephisto toilet paper, dvd case on top of the light. Most crack in 48 hours. If nit, i manually crack it and stick it back in for 12 hours.
Since starting cracking at 48 hours i havent had a "dud"
