It just needs to be strong enough for the plant to be moving (nothing too vigourous but atwist n turn her n there is ideal). I use a standard desk fan ( 9") at about 3 feet away on loeest setting and its on a 15 mins on/off cycle.
The stem will strengthen and it moves the air, managing local temps...
