Is PPM of water an issue when not using nutes?

Nah man, 80 PPM from the tap is good. That's like the water that flows in the rivers of Utopia. I guess Utopian rivers would be a little lower. Or maybe higher? I'm no nutritionist. Or plumber. But 80 PPM would be just above 60 PPM which, I think 60 PPM would be considered soft water.

After 38 years of listening to the wife complain about getting the calcium buildup off the shower door, I thought my water was pure liquid calcium. LMAO

Haha! I was thinking 80 PPM, WTF is this guy going on about? Does he live in HEAVEN? Seriously though, do you have a water softener or something? I guess if you do, I'd be concerned of salt. But at 80, I personally wouldn't bother with hassling when it comes to gardening water. Unless you've got something crazy in your water, which I will ASSume you don't.

What color are the deposits? You could be getting some kind of buildup of something other than calcium. Is that 80ppm at your tap or per a water quality report? Depending on how old your plumbing is it may be something leaching from that perhaps?

White is calcium/ soap buildup yes? Orange is iron? We also have higher iron in our Los Angeles water. At least everywhere here that we have lived.

I'll ASSume that you check with a TDS meter and that it's accurate. But 170 spring water does sound about right last I checked.

Yea we get both white and orange too. I have taken many faucets apart to clean calcium buildup over the years. I guess it must be more related to the age of our homes plumbing. I'm glad I posted this thread, seems the spring water purchases are overkill.
Yes I used a TDS meter that I calibrated. But even if the calibration was off, it should still be reliable enough to tell me my tap water has a lower ppm then our bottled water.

Good thing to have a decent meter. I don’t check PPM/EC every time now. Except when I change my doses. But it’s an important tool.

My first couple grows, I didn’t check PH, or PPM. Just kind of observed and such. Everything went fine. But I decided finally to get a couple meters to “up my game”. So, obviously I buy the cheapest POS I could. Damn TDS meter ALWAYS read 1000 PPM, and I was too dumb to think about the meter being shit for weeks. I figured my tap water was like molten lava. Finally got some TDS calibration fluid and snapped to what was up. And spent the $ on a decent one. Dunno why I’m rambling on about this. But I am.

Even an occasional ramble can have valuable info in it at times. This whole thread came about, cause I started my recent grow with gnatty soil. So I been watering with mosquito dunk treated water. I then thought maybe I best check my ph and ppm in the treated water. The dunks raised the ph by .2 and the ppm by 10, which IMO is insignificant.

We always drink bottled water. In my area kidney stones are of major concern. Calcium is a pain on plumbing fixtures, and it aint no fun trying to piss out a ball of calcium the size of a BB with spikes on it

Nice description of a kidney stone. Seems that you may have been there. I have not had the pleasure, yet.
