We have had a big problem with snails and slugs this year, you can keep them from climbing up on stands, pots etc by simply shaking some table salt on the ground around the legs of your planter, they get near the salt and they recoil, sprinkle some on them and they die.

That can wash away but copper tape or mesh they cant cross over it so it’ll keep em off your pots til tape falls off but i have some on earthboxes outside thats been on for over a year in the elements without issue! The mesh will rust and need replacing by the following season!
