Thanks Banana, I'm already excited by the prospect of having so much of my own! Another issue i have is drying space/conditions. I'm not allowed it in the house (tried that... "OUT!!!":nooo and the only other place is my garden shed - which is pretty ideal except it gets leaky in bad weather. If the weather is reasonably warm and dry for the next few weeks, I'll be fine. But the rain and subsequent damp concern me when my bud is supposed to be 'drying' - let alone curing! At this rate - its going to be at least 7 days for drying.

Lots of people dry weed outdoors, just hanging in a semi shaded area, where it get rained on and stuff. Itll be fine

To be honest I would not allow anyone to dry weed hung like Welsh Hams in my house either. I was worried about drying when I first started growing myself, cos of employees wondering round the house during the day - our entertaining schedule, and the smell and all the kerfuffle involved. And then AFN to the rescue, I read some thread on brown paper bag drying. I read everything I could find on here; ordered bags off Amazon and fluttered my eyes at the supreme leader cos I needed more shoe boxes from Bertieshoes.com whose shoe boxes are unbleached brown cardboard. Of course shoes had to be ordered to get said additional boxes :xlaugh:

The BPK was stinky as hell, we cut up the buds into golf ball sized pieces and popped them into the bottom of a brown paper bag. Stapled the bag shut loosely. Popped paper bag into Bertie's shoe box and 4 days later, they were showing 67% humidity on hygrometer and so popped them Into mason jars with a big ass bag of boveda 62% - burped jar when I remembered, but Boveda know what they are doing.

The point of this long post is that the paper bag drying method was pretty smell free and extremely unobtrusive. The room stank like mad the 2 times I checked to see if they were dry, but said checking/opening can also be done in your shed or outside. So my advice to you is this, tell your other half, cos I assume it is she who objects to the sight and smell of hung dry cannabis, which is very trying for house proud hausfraus like us. Why don't you get your mrs a bit more involved, by telling her you need at least 4 to 6 Bertie's shoe boxes so that dry can be done indoors without odour and taking over a whole room. Okay, I am baked and I love shoes. You never know it might work, the hardship you are asking her to grin and bear is ordering four shoes so you can use the boxes to dry in a more genteel fashion. More than one way to skin a cat and all that jazz.... And the results from this method of drying are sterling.:thumbs:

Wise words from the Banana, I do much the same. I hang the whole plant in the driest place I can get away with for about a week, then trim the buds off and dry them in a cardboard box for about another week, then into glass jars. I've just started using boveda, but if not then don't forget to empty the jars to let the buds air occasionally to prevent mould at the bottom of the jar. I don't feel I need to go to the effort of a paper bag, probably a local humidity thing.

Banana, you should write more posts when you are baked - that was ace, and good advice too, thanks. A friend of mine rang me last night and said he had a present for me. First thing was that he's bought me a some kind of bud microscope thing to help check ripeness (which is really generous of him -Thanks Will) and also, that he had some paper bags I could have. Good friends and serendipity are wonderful things. Going to order some Boveda packs, they can only help. How many do I need please guys? glad to hear Dr.Who uses them too. I'm actually comfortable with curing because most of the danger will have gone with a decent dry.

My main concern is still the wet weather because all the drying has to be done outside. It currently rains every day (sometimes a lot) and in the meantime, its high humidity (currently 94% here), down to 10C at night and struggling towards 20C in the day, almost perfect for all the wrong nasties.

I find myself moving the plants (hanging from a bamboo pole) several times a day to get a slightly blowier or drier spot. They overnight in the shed with a line of 5 tea lights approx 1m beneath them for a few hours (till they burn out) to help extend the period they are in better (less humid/warmer) conditions. I read that slower drying is best (to a point) and get some solace from that because they are slow. It is drying, but the cool temps and wet air are really taking their toll. Now trying to decide when to do my next tactical harvest on Yeti3, who (just like the rest of us) needs another week of sunshine. As i keep mentioning, I need to go away for about 10 days and want to get all Yeti's well dried and safely curing before I go.
