My advice:

Calibrate that cheap par meter, the cheap ones can be wrong and cook your plants - now how would I know that?
Don't cheap out on the pH meter, ditto.

If your going to grow Autos, you need to have an airy medium, I always err on the side of more airy as the medium will always compact due to watering and root growth.
