New Grower Wick watering with Smart Pots, input please

Like I said in previous posts in this thread, I plan on testing the wicks out with my grow set-up exactly as it will be used but without any plants. If it keeps the soil wet without plants, it should work with plants...the difference will be that the plant will pull moisture out of the soil which should keep the wicking action going. One thing I'm not sure about is if a wick can OVERWATER a plant...or if there's some limitation/capacity to the capillary action; if the soil is already very wet maybe the wick will no longer draw as much/any water. I can't find any info on that online but I believe that to be the case because many who successfully grow with wicking systems claim the watering is "self-regulating" in that all you do is fill the reservoir and let the wick, soil, and roots do most the work.

It seems like I'm on track! Thanks for all the input AFN!
