Yes. I've seen this countless times in my work as a counselor.

People who become well enough to be discharged from hospital end up there again.

Another often stated reason is that the drug side effects are intolerable to them.

Sometimes there's paranoia that the police and doctors (and everyone) are trying to poison them..... psychosis is a horrible thing to live with.
Going off the meds is particularly a problem for those with Schizophrenia. The process there is that the normal med make you into a bit of a zombie, and the patient knows that they are a bit of a zombie, which is continuously unpleasant for some. Also, they know that if they quit the meds, they will get a few awesome days before the disease takes over, by which time they don't realize how poor they are functioning. The thinking seems to be, sometimes, that the few good days are worth the cost. :sadcry:

Condolences gro bro, that is a rough shift. My mother was shizophrenic, and a friends son is the same. The son has kept on the meds for years now, but prior to this stretch, he was on and off for years. My mother never managed to stay on her meds for more than a couple years or so, and in those days, off meds meant back to the institute and shock therapy. Nasty bloody disease.

Fortunately, it seems to have skipped a generation. But I would say that, wouldn't I? :crying::pighug:

You endured alot and you got out of it alive.
:bighug:

Mood stabilizers tend to keep people slightly low. And some of them cause bloating and electrolyte imbalances.

Plus hypomania (slightly up) is productive and even fun.....like a normal person after a benny or a couple lines of coke.

But mania. Dangerous for the patient and everyone around. Add psychosis and horrible things can happen.

I hope she got/gets the help she needs.

I am sending site-wide messages this morning from AFN Forms System (a dummy-dummy account.) It's about the migration. Over 6300 message sent and counting.

Could you perhaps send another with the link to the new site included? The migration chat thread is good but I did not see the new site address clearly anywhere.

Gooey Goodness.
