I wouldn't I'd just let them ride it out and over flow a little I would assume you still should get runoff by the end of the day.. I honestly cringed when you said you poked and prodded it the other day

That's what I've been doing. Doesn't overflow though. Tried scratching with my fingers at 1st but got nothing so I stole a fork from the kitchen. Surprisingly the fork didn't get anywhere in there and I don't think it did any damage at all really. I'd be ok with some damage since I've only got a couple weeks to go and clearly have enough roots

I usually mix up extra coco to add as it settles. If you do it early it will also fill with roots.
